In my bachelor's degree at the Media Akademie Hochschule Stuttgart, I designed a Propolis diffuser in cooperation with the company 'Bienenmanufaktur'.
What is Propolis?
Propolis is a plant product obtained from flowers, buds and leaves. A small part of the bee colony collects the resin and mixes it with the body's own saliva. The bees themselves use the resin to seal the inside of their nest. It keeps rain out, prevents rotting and decay and keeps other animals away.
What positive effects does propolis have on human health?
.Propolis can be used in a number of medical areas. It is believed that propolis strengthens immune function and has antibacterial properties. Lotions, tinctures, oils and capsules as well as the steam of propolis help humans. As propolis is antibacterial, the steam can be used to disinfect surfaces and rooms.
The procedure:
After clarifying what the product is supposed to do, I started drawing sketches with pens to look at different shapes and sizes.
The basic features of the propolis diffuser include:
- Evaporate propolis
- Atomize fragrances (essential oil)
- Atmospheric lighting

Upon request, the client can also book technical upgrades that include:
- Sound system
- Amplification system to better distribute the scents and propolis
- Air purification system
Since the customer's taste and style is as individual as the customer himself, the customer can choose between five different colours. The slats inside the diffuser can be individually selected according to the customer's wishes and preferences.

To replace the filters (in the lamellas and the pre-filter in the base), the desired part must be removed with a slight twist. If the FF2P filter is removed, the entire lamella construction can be taken out of the transparent plastic cover or alternatively only the individual lamellae. To remove the pre-filter, only the cover of the base has to be removed. This is possible through the contact tube (see picture below left (2)).
The Propolis diffuser on the right has interfered the air filter system. In the middle is the contact tube that makes it possible to break apart.
Unfortunately, Propolis has no smell, so a container was built in the top part of the diffuser with four departments . In two departments, lava stones with etheric oil on it, which release scent. The lava stones can be covered by a rotating lid if the smell is not to be released. In the other departments, Propoli can keep capsules or oil. the propolis are vaporized in the ceramic cylinder, in the middle of the object
